The Expotition gameplay

Gameplay of The Expotition.

The Expotition is a minigame featured at The Spookey Cave in the 100 Acre Wood in both Kingdom Hearts II and its Final Mix version. It is playable after obtaining the fourth Torn Page (typically inside the Emperor's Throne Room at The Land of Dragons) and returning it to the book in Merlin's house. During the initial foray into the area the 100 Acre Wood inhabitants have come to the cave to look for Winnie the Pooh, who went inside and has not yet returned since.

The objective of the minigame is for Sora, alongside Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, and Roo, to search the cave and find Pooh. The first attempt has a timer, but no time limit. After completing it once the timer will count down instead, granting you only five minutes to find Pooh. Initial completion of the minigame grants Sora the Sweet Memories Keyblade.

Gameplay[]

Sora's companions will always attempt to keep up with and follow him, so it is required to not go too fast, lest you leave them behind and have to go back. Some care has to be taken around corners, as it is possible for them to get stuck momentarily, and thus potentially get too far out of range. There are no true obstacles within the cave, just minor hazards that affect the Courage meter that indicates how long until they panic and stop following Sora.

The meter itself ticks down over time, but losing sight of Sora, or being in the presence of bees makes it go down faster. Being hit by falling rocks or watching Sora slip on ice will remove larger chunks instead. When the meter is empty the group will panic and start running in circles, at which point you can use Settle down! to force them to calm down and start following again. The bees are easily defeated with Thunder or Magnet magic, and the rocks can be avoided with the Company halt command, followed by Forwarch march to get moving again. Lastly, the ice will glow once when you touch it, and again immediately after, which is when you will slip and fall if you are still touching it. Simply jump or get off to not slip.

From the start of the cave the road to Pooh is fairly linear, and you only need to take the second tunnel from the left upon entering the large chamber, followed by another immediate left at the intersection, to reach Pooh. Note that there are a large number of treasure chests hidden throughout the cave, so exploration is worthwhile. You need to complete the minigame within ninety seconds to clear Jiminy's Journal's objective.

Behind the scenes[]

The minigame is based off of the 1997 direct-to-video film Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin in which Pooh and company go on an "expotition" through a spooky cave to find their missing friend.
