ShotlockReticules

The two shotlock reticules; the one on the left still has time and the other has none.

Treasure - Shotlock Shotlock (シュートロック Shūto Rokku?, lit. "Shoot Lock") is a combat mechanic for Terra, AquaVentus, and Sora that debuted in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. It is initiated by holding Template:Button and Template:Button together. The user enters first person mode and locks onto enemies, and by pressing Template:Button, the user then initiates a powerful attack that hits all targeted enemies. By locking onto the maximum amount of enemies, additional attacks can be added by following on-screen prompts.

The amount of time the user has to lock onto targets depends on the Focus Gauge, which empties when the attack is initiated and can be refilled by attacking enemies and using Ethers. The Focus Gauge can be also be refilled if the player has the Damage Syphon ability, in which the player's gauge will refill when they take damage, or either of the Focus Block or Focus Barrier commmands, in which the gauge will refill when blocking attacks.

Most of the Shotlocks in the game can be learned by all three Keyblade wielders, but they also get several that are unique to themselves.

There are three basic types of Shotlocks that can be categorized based on the type of button input. One involves pressing the Template:Button button repeatedly while the user fires many blasts of magic. Another involves the user dashing around surrounded by an elemental aura and ending with the player putting in the right combination to generate large pillars of magic. The last form involves timing and pressing the Template:Button button as a ring lines up with another, this usually has the user firing blasts of different magic in rounds similar to Ragnarok.

In Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-, a Shotlock is initiated by holding down Template:Button. The user enters a targeting mode and locks onto enemies, and the Shotlock begins by pressing Template:Button (Template:Button in the Japanese version). Triggering a Shotlock slows down time for the duration of the Focus gauge's depletion, allowing the player to maximize the number of lock-ons while minimizing damage and interference.

In Kingdom Hearts III, the mechanics are similar to 0.2. However, Shotlocks are now tied to Keyblades. Each Keyblade has a certain number of Shotlocks; often, these are differentiated by whether Sora used an incomplete or max lock when firing.
