One interesting feature of Flood is the manner in which they emulate both Shadows, the basic form of Heartless, and Dusks, which are the basic form of Nobodies. Like Shadows, Floods are able to sink flat to the ground and become temporarily invincible, and like Dusks they enter the battlefield with a contorting, stretching entrance.

The Flood is an Unversed that is found in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts III, and is the most common form of Unversed. Like all Unversed, the Flood is created from a negative emotion; in the Flood's case, it represents irritation.[1]

Story

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

Upon Terra's arrival in Enchanted Dominion, he is surrounded by a swarm of Floods. However, all but one is dispatched and the survivor flees to the bridge before being squashed by Terra's Keyblade.

Another swarm of Floods appeared in Radiant Garden after Terra arrived via a tip from Master Xehanort.

After Ventus defeats Vanitas in their second battle at the Keyblade Graveyard, Vanitas reveals his face and that he is the source of the Unversed. He then summons several Floods to restrain Ventus as he fuses with him.

Design

A Flood is a sleek, humanoid creature with blue skin. Its arms and legs end in points and have no distinct digits. It has a triangular head with two long, jagged, lightning bolt-shaped antennae reminiscent of the Unversed symbol. Its red eyes are set in an angry expression and it moves in a jerking, twitchy motion. While most Floods are roughly the size of a Shadow Heartless, some in the Keyblade Graveyard are shown to be quite large. It is the only generic Unversed that does not have an Unversed emblem on its body.

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, Floods receive a palette swap which gives them a purple body and fuchsia colored antennae.[2]

A "flood" is an overflow of an expanse of water that submerges land. It could refer to the Flood's menace in great numbers and its blue coloration, as well as "overflowing emotion".

Strategy

Floods, though very weak, can be quite a menace when in large groups. It is usually seen with larger Unversed, but a few hits will kill it easily. It is also possible to use magic in order to defeat this enemy. If it sinks into the ground, simply wait for it to surface before attacking.
