The Dark Inferno is a Pureblood Heartless that appears as a Boss in Kingdom Hearts III. A weaker version, deemed Dark Inferno X, fought Sora upon entering Ventus' Heart, stating he was "too pure".
Design[]
These pureblood heartless resemble the Invisible and Orcus heartless; with big muscular black bodies, red-orange tipped horns on the head, small purple wings, a long tail with a blade, white balls that act as roller skates on the feet, and they have two large blue blades with yellow handles.
Strategy[]
It attacks with its two blades at a close range, when far off they will either speed up to you on their wheels, or hurl a ball of fire at you. They will also cross their blades together to block your moves, specifically when you are attacking it. There are three phases in the original battle, in which its attacks get more erratic and harder to predict.
In phase 1, Dark Inferno is not hard to fight, as long as you get used to its array of attacks, such as jumping back to create some distance, then unleashing a flurry of sword strikes while approaching quickly, then using an unblockable Red attack, which will be a recurring theme.
- The second of the two attacks it will open up with at the start of the battle is a curved dash to your location, then attacking you with blockable attacks.
- When using what little opportunity you get to attack it, after one combo it will cross its blades, while crossing its blades still allows you to attack it, when hit it will unleash an un-staggerable Red attack.
- Another attack it may use is akin to the Invisible’s disappearing attack from KH1 as it will link its blades together, stab them into the ground and spin, before disappearing. While it spins, it creates orbs of darkness, that circle you after it disappears, which spin for a few seconds before releasing themselves in two sets of four to hit you, then Dark Inferno reappears at the same place it disappeared from and unlinking its blades, then floating there for a few seconds.
- The last attack it can use has it unleash another unblockable Red attack in the form of a spinning blade attack that you must not underestimate the range of. Getting hit by this in the first and second phase (from my experience) will stun you and leave you open to whatever it decides to hit you with.
Phases 2 and 3 are exactly the same, except that in phase 2, it can cancel most attacks into other attacks or actions up to around 3 in a row, usually ending in a Red attack. The only attacks it has never canceled into another attack when it was fought was the dark orbs attack and the spinning Red attack. In Phase 3, it can cancel both, such as summoning the orbs of darkness, then attacking while they hit you. Also, while in phases 2 and 3, the orbs of darkness gain 1 and 2 extra sets of 4 respectively. Changing phases is symbolised by Dark Inferno gaining a coloured aura and changing the colour of the roller skate orbs on its feet; blue-ish purple for phase 2 and red for phase 3.
