The 99 puppies are both a side quest and a large group of minor characters in Kingdom Hearts and its Final Mix version. When their world disappeared they were separated and scattered across many worlds. Leon knew of this was worried about them, and requested Sora's help in recovering and bringing them back to their parents.

It is not mandatory to find any of the puppies in Kingdom Hearts, but doing so yields various rewards, which includes unlocking the secret ending Another side, Another story..., the power of wind, and a full gummi block set (only a basic one in the Final Mix version).

In Re:coded, the puppies appear as scratch cards in tag mode on the Avatar Menu. If players find one of the puppies, they may receive an extra prize as a result.

Characteristics[]

The puppies have varied personalities, although being hyperactive and childlike are their most common traits. They all enjoy watching television, but are all very well-disciplined by their parents. In one of the rooms in the Dalmatian's House, one puppy will happily follow Sora through the room.

According to the Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, Puppy No. 5 is Patch, No. 6 is Rolly, No. 12 is Lucky (he sits in front of the television), No. 13 is Pepper, No. 23 is Penny, and No. 69 is Freckles. These also have slightly different spots compared to their siblings. Puppies can also be told apart by their gender based on the collar they wear (blue for females, red for males).

Collecting all 99 puppies also grants you the bronze trophy and achievement Top Dog in the 1.5 ReMIX version.
